Ashwin Atre - East Coast to West Coast

After a truly epic week of reunion and graduation festivities at Princeton University, I went back to the Santa Barbara area for a month to kick off an amazing summer. As Danny mentioned, we spent a week near Mammoth at June Lake with a big group that included fellow 05ers Sophia, Kai, and Melanie. After celebrating the 4th of July in SB, Danny and I headed to Asia, visiting Taiwan, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia. Each city/village/jungle/island that we visited had something amazing and unexpected to offer, but my favorite destinations were Ko Phi Phi, Thailand, and Bali, Indonesia (read about the trip at www.ashwindanny.blogspot.com). At the end of the summer I spent about two weeks living in New York - a city with which I am now obsessed. I can't wait to go back to visit again.

I am currently at Stanford University pursuing a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering. What drew me to this field, and this university specifically, is it's focus on researching practical renewable energy solutions. While it will be a few months until I decide what faculty I want to work with, I plan on researching either photovoltaics or energy storage. Luckily, I'm not too far from SB so I will definitely be back at Cate for reunions. Can't wait to see everyone!
